Sunshine and Inspiration

I have had a busy two weeks starting with a four-day sun soaked trip to Shawnigan Lake School. I love this place. While there, they actually let me teach the kids a bit about characterization. I worked with eight classes and spoke with two house groups. I think I learned more from them then they did from me though. I even got to roll out Sushi with an Economics class. I don’t think they were expecting my to pull on a pair of rubber gloves and dive in, but what fun is life unless you are willing to get a little dirty. Then, there’sIMG_4040 the drive to the school and a ferry ride over to Vancouver Island where I got to refine the murder scene for the release of Scream, A Lakeview Novel 3, coming out next March. It happens on the ferry, like the one I took. I probably snapped a dozen pictures to make sure I get the scene right. Two of them are already hanging on the wall.

Following that, I did a little event in Seattle called Inside Story with sixteen other authors that didn’t turn out to be that “little”. Over one hundred people showed up.

Finally, I finished up the week with a trip to Wedgewood Elementary and one of my first events centered on ARRGH! My new middle grade book coming out this fall. We talked pirates, the Caribbean and sailing. I even signed bookmarks. Seriously, how cute is that?

I love the smiles I get when I’m lucky enough to work with a classroom full of kids, whether they’re eighteen or nine. I think they might even be better than chocolate!

Keep on reading -Stacey

  1. That is so awesome! I am so glad you were able to do this. I know those kids were lucky to have you there :)!

  2. My students are still talking about you (using words like “so cool” and “really funny”) and some parents have even told me that their kids loved having you here! Thanks again for coming! I wish I would’ve gotten a picture of you signing all their bookmarks!

    • Let’s do it again in the fall! I loved being there. You are an amazing teacher!

  3. Erin said her kids absolutely loved you! How cool is it that a real author actually was in their class and talked to them. What a wonderful experience for them!

    • I felt like the Lucky one Debbie. Those kids were a ton of fun! 🙂
